Sean was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) on February 12, 2012. This was shocking to us all as Sean is the healthiest man we know. He has run the 70.3 Ironman in Boise three times, with his best finish time in June of 2011. He was active in his sons' school, volunteering twice a week in each boy's Anser Charter School classroom, coaching BNSC soccer teams for second grader and preschooler in the fall and YMCA basketball for fourth grade boys in the winter. He was one of the adult men involved in First Presbyterian Church, Boise's youth group, even though his own children are too young to participate, and chaperoned a 10 day trip to Jamaica last year where they did plumbing and renovation work in a school for the deaf. He has been a pilot for SkyWest Airlines since June 2000, where he is a captain.

All that changed with his diagnosis. Sean has undergone 3 rounds of chemotherapy in preparation for a bone marrow transplant. The transplant will take place in Seattle at the Seattle Care Cancer Alliance working with the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and the University of Washington. Sean will travel to Seattle on June 5th and will remain there for treatment, follow-up care and monitoring for approximately 4 months. Penelope will be his primary care provider during his outpatient treatment which will be approximately 3 months of the stay.  Brennan, Avery and Lilly will spend some of this time in Seattle with mom & dad and some of the time with grandparents, cousins and friends.  The travel plans for the children are fluid and will depend on Sean's health.

The fundraiser is being planned to raise money for the Gaffney family to help defray medical expenses for Sean's treatment, including his COBRA insurance premiums, co-pays, alternative/integrative therapies (such as message for Sean), living expenses in Seattle and travel expenses for the children and respite care providers to spell Penelope, and the ongoing costs of a home in Boise.

Thank-you again for your support.  If you
